These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Backlot app and website at usebacklot.com. By using Backlot, listing a space, or starting a rental, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
Backlot is a marketplace that helps people find and rent physical spaces, including storage, parking, workshops, and similar spaces. Backlot provides listing, payment, and communication tools. Space owners provide the spaces; Backlot is not the owner, landlord, manager, or operator of user-listed spaces.
You must be legally able to enter a binding agreement to use Backlot. You agree to provide accurate, current information and not impersonate another person. You are responsible for activity performed through your device, rental reference, listing recovery code, or account.
Space owners agree that they will:
Renters agree that they will:
Rentals are billed through Stripe according to the price and renewal terms shown at checkout. Backlot may collect a platform fee from each rental payment. Unless stated otherwise at checkout, rentals renew monthly until canceled. Taxes, refunds, payout timing, and payment failures may be handled by Backlot, Stripe, or the applicable payment networks as permitted by law.
You may not use information or communications obtained through Backlot to arrange, accept, continue, or pay for a rental outside Backlot for the purpose of avoiding Backlot's platform fees. Asking another user to move a Backlot rental off the platform, sharing payment instructions to bypass Backlot, or otherwise circumventing the checkout or renewal process violates these Terms. Backlot may investigate suspected circumvention and may suspend or terminate your account or access to the service, cancel listings, or take other appropriate action.
Backlot may relay messages between renters and owners. You agree to use these tools only for legitimate rental communication and not for spam, harassment, fraud, illegal activity, or fee circumvention. Relayed messages are sent through Backlot's private reply flow; Backlot does not display or share either party's raw contact information through that relay.
Cancellation timing and renewal status are shown in the app or in Stripe's billing tools. You should raise rental problems promptly with the other party or contact Backlot support. Backlot may assist with a dispute but does not guarantee a particular outcome and may rely on payment-provider records and information supplied by the parties.
By posting a listing, photo, review, or message, you agree not to post objectionable, illegal, or misleading content. This includes sexually explicit content, threats, harassment, hate speech, scams, fraud, spam, and content that infringes another person's rights.
You may not:
Use the Report button on a listing or review, or email support@usebacklot.com to report content. Include the listing or review ID and the reason for your report when contacting support by email.
Backlot reviews reports and removes reported content that violates these Terms within 24 hours of receiving the report. Backlot may suspend or terminate access for users who post prohibited content, including repeat violators. A report is not, by itself, a finding that a violation occurred.
You can also hide a review or block an owner's listings on your device. These preferences apply only to that device; they do not remove content for other users or cancel existing rentals. You can manage and undo these preferences in Help.
Backlot may restrict, suspend, or terminate access, remove a listing, or cancel an uncompleted transaction when reasonably necessary to protect users, enforce these Terms, prevent fraud or abuse, comply with law, or protect the service. Obligations that by their nature should survive termination—including payment obligations and limits of liability—will continue to apply.
Backlot is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis to the fullest extent permitted by law. Backlot does not guarantee the condition, legality, security, availability, or suitability of a user-listed space, or the conduct of any renter or owner. Users are responsible for evaluating spaces and counterparties before entering a rental.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Backlot will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, property, or opportunities arising from use of the service or a transaction between users. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
We may update these Terms as the service changes. We will post the revised Terms here and update the date above. Continuing to use Backlot after updated Terms take effect means you accept them.
