Backlot ("we", "us") is a marketplace for renting physical space —
storage, parking, workshops, and more. This policy explains what
information we collect through the Backlot app and website
(usebacklot.com), how we use it, and the choices you have.
Information we collect

Location. With your permission, the app uses your
device's location to show spaces near you and calculate distances.
Location is used in real time to run these features; you can decline
or revoke location access at any time in your device settings, and
the app will still work with reduced functionality.
Location coordinates for spaces you list are stored with the listing
so we can show its location and help renters find it.

Camera and photos. With your permission, the app can
access your camera or photo library so you can add photos to a space
listing. Photos you upload are stored so they can be shown to
prospective renters. We do not access your camera or photos for any
other purpose.

Email address. If you provide an email at checkout,
we use it to link your rental to you, send rental-related messages,
and help you recover access to your listings. If you join our
waitlist, we use your email to send launch updates.

Listing and rental details. Information you enter
when creating a listing or renting a space (space details, address,
pricing, rental status).

Rental messages. Messages between renters and owners
are relayed through our email provider, not kept purely in the app.
Message content is included in delivered emails.
Payments
Payments are processed by Stripe. Your full card number
and security code are entered directly with Stripe and are not stored
by Backlot. We retain some payment and billing information from Stripe
in Backlot's own database, such as payment and subscription status,
payment-method details, billing details, and the email associated with
the payment. Stripe's handling of your information is described in the

How we use information
- To show you spaces near you and power search and maps
- To create and manage listings and monthly rentals
- To process payments and send rental confirmations and receipts
- To respond to support requests and feedback
- To keep the service secure and prevent abuse
What we don't do
- We do not sell your personal information.
- We do not use your location or photos for advertising.

We share information only with service providers needed to run
Backlot (such as Stripe for payments and our email provider for
transactional emails), or when required by law.
Data retention and deletion
We keep your information for as long as needed to provide the service
and meet legal obligations (for example, payment records). You can ask
us to delete your information by emailing us at the address below, and
we will honor the request except where we're required to retain
records.
Your choices
- Location and camera permissions can be changed anytime in your device settings.
- You can unsubscribe from waitlist emails at any time.
- You can request a copy or deletion of your data by contacting us.
Children
Backlot is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly
collect information from them.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we'll update this page and revise the
"Last updated" date above.
